I love it... from the early days of arriving in Bampton I knew I had to hone my skills in the cellar and work out what my customers really really wanted and also make sure I knew how to care for these temperamental characters.

With the introduction of a new guest pump and a comments book, we scoured the West Country in search of two permanent ales for the bar... many a strange name was sourced and probably only got drunk for its novelty factor, some too strong some too light or hoppy, I really was learning a new language, I mean how can beer taste like chocolate?

So after months of trial and error the new ales were put on permanently... unveil Doombar from Sharps Brewery and Otter Ale from near by Luppit in Devon, at 4% and

4.5% respectively you have a good session and drinkers ale to choose from. With both breweries having a fine eco friendly ethic and stacks of awards between them... Well

see for yourself visit www.otterbrewery.com or www.sharpsbrewery.co.uk

Well now I have a free guest pump to tempt the adventurous and what great fun that too has been sourcing many West Country beers to whet the appetites of my regulars from such breweries as Exmoor, Taunton, Tamar, O’Hanlons, Barum, Skinners, Goffs, Summerskills, St. Austell, Butcombe, Country Life to name but a few.

In the last few months as well as gaining Cask Marque we have introduced another hand pump to supply Exmoor Ales on a rotation system, Ale 3.8%, Fox 4.2%, Gold 4.5%, Stag 5.2% and just maybe we’ll make it to the Beast at 6.6%.

Watch out for new guest ales as I’ve decided to go further afield, so if you have a favourite let me know. Our Guest ales are always on twitter
